When Shoppers Become Buyers:
Pulling back the curtain on retail''s "golden rule"
to reveal new insights into shopper behavior.
Presented by Jeff Froud, Senior Strategic Planner, OgilvyAction.
December 10, 2008
2:30 p.m. ET
Limited space is available. Register today!
A new global shopper study, "Shopper Decisions Made In-Store" (SDMIS), reveals what''s truly happening in the world''s retail shopping aisles.
Over 14,000 shopper interviews were conducted in 700 retail outlets across 24 markets globally. The OgilvyAction study spanned five retail channels across six product categories to examine how shopper decisions differ across shopping channels, product categories as well as brands, and how those decisions vary by country and shopper profile.
The widely quoted statistic "70 percent of shopper purchase decisions are made in store" never went far enough to be very useful to marketers. What marketers really need is to understand the different kinds of decisions that shoppers are making and then be able to generate insights that will help them develop smarter and more targeted programs to activate their brands in-store.
In this From the Source Web seminar, Jeff Froud of OgilvyAction will share the results of this study and discuss how brand marketers can make better strategic investment decisions in this weakening economy and use the store more effectively as a vehicle to build sales and equity in their brands.

 | | Government Relations : Tax Swap Tax on Advertising
Let s Fight it Together!
Join us Friday, June 13th
For an informal meeting to discuss
this important issue.
Dear Advertising Agency Owner, Executive or Service Provider:
On behalf of Advertising Federation of Greater Fort Lauderdale, I'd like to alert you about an important matter that could affect your business. In 1987, the Florida legislature passed the Ad Tax, which put a sales tax on advertising. Fortunately the act was repealed six months later, but after great damage to our industry. Now the issue could likely be raised again, and we need your support to stop it.
Recently, the Florida Taxation and Budget Reform Commission (TBRC) voted and approved a proposed constitutional amendment, Amendment 5, to cut local property taxes by at least 25%. The amendment will be on the general election ballot November 4th and it could have damaging consequences to everyone in our industry. If approved by voters, the State is projected to lose $9 billion is tax revenues, and that money must be made up somewhere else. The proposed amendment will force lawmakers to select one or more of four options, which include:
1.) repeal current sales tax exemptions;
2.) increase the current sales tax by one cent;
3.) cut spending in other state programs; and/or
4.) create "other revenues identified by the legislature."
Unfortunately, a one-cent sales tax increase will only generate an estimated $4 billion in revenue, which means the legislature will have to look to other means to make up the difference.
To effectively fight this amendment, we are united and working with other organizations to ensure the stability of our industry, but we need your support. Along with the American Advertising Federation, the AHAA's Legislative and Public Policy Committee, Florida Association of Broadcasters, Association of National Advertisers (ANA), and the American Association of Advertising Agencies (AAAA) are all currently involved and formulating plans to launch a high-profile campaign to convince Floridians to vote against Amendment 5.
A sales tax on advertising time, space and services will affect your clients' budgets – and your bottom line. The AdFed is very involved in this issue and we invite you to join us to discuss the impact this legislation would have, and to learn how you can help.
Please join us for an informal discussion on Friday, June 13th:
What: An informational discussion on the tax swap with 4th District Lobbyist, Jack Hebert
When: Friday, June 13th at 11:30 a.m.
Where: RMS Networks - 900 SE 3rd Avenue, 3rd Floor, Ft. Lauderdale, FL 33316. (Visit rrmsnetworks.com/contact.php for a map and directions)
Mr. Hebert is a powerful ally, our eyes and ears in Tallahassee, and is working with other coalition leaders to defeat this amendment. The Advertising Federation is working hard to protect our interests, but we need each and every service provider to become involved.
If you plan to attend, please RSVP at the 'contact us' section of our website - advertisingfederation.org/contact.asp
We hope to see you there!
Sincerely,
Dawn Rahicki
President

 | | THE FUTURE OF ADVERTISING? Power to the People Arrive with questions and be ready to debate our future! This is an audience-driven panel discussion about current trends in user-driven advertising.
Has "advertising" become dirty word? If you follow today's industry trends, you might think so. This public sentiment is by no means new-but today's clients and consumers are demanding a say in how their products are advertised. In fact, companies are trying hard and spending big bucks to try to advertise without well, "advertising". The increasing saturation of traditional media coupled with the rapidly decreasing attention span of the average consumer has left many advertisers wondering how to truly reach people. Let's talk about viral video, corporate driven blogs, do-it-yourself applications, product placement, myspace & youtube, pop-up stores& and other "slice of life" advertising.
PANELISTS
Milan De Vito - Zimmerman, VP Managing Director, Creative Services
Jeff Zbar - Sun Sentinel Advertising and Media Columnist (www.jeffzbar.com)

Sure, our perceived lesser calling pays the bills, but are we the red-headed step child of the art world? Exploring the impact on, and impact made by creative professionals who produce disposable art.
PANELISTS:
Maggy Cuesta, New World School Miami
